Case 1:
Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Voluntary Carbon Projects.
Sectors: Renewable Energy (wind, hydro, biomass and solar), industrial gases capturing and destruction (HFC23 and N2O), methane avoidance .
Scope of Services:
-
EVI developed project design document (selecting baseline, establishing additionality etc), facilitated host country approval, coordinated for validation and issues resolution to finalize validation report; completed formalities for requesting registration, supported in rEVIew process
-
Exclusive advisor to manage carbon assets; obtaining price bids, facilitating Emission Reduction Purchase Agreements (ERPAs)
-
Preparing monitoring reports; facilitating verification and issuance of Certified Emission Reduction (CERs), Verified Emission Reduction (VER); consultancy on dEVIation and rEVIsion in monitoring plans
Case 2:
Client:a Clean Technology Developer
-
The client is implementing small scale biomass gasification systems in a developing country and developing the same as a Programme of Activities (PoA) CDM project. These energy systems provides off grid distributed electricity in rural areas using renewable energy sources. As project constitutes multiple installations dispersed in time and space, PoA CDM route is selected for CDM registration.
Scope of Services:
EVI provides CDM advisory including PoA requirements completion, facilitating CDM validation and registration; exclusive advisory to manage CERs.
Case 3:
Sector: Carbon Market:
Currently there is no comprehensive international climate change mitigation treaty that exists beyond 2012. And the state of the post 2012 Kyoto carbon market has been subjected to various speculations. Project developers across the world including India are concerned about the outcome of discussions scheduled in Mexico. The outcome remains uncertain whether there would be a market for the post 2012 CERs generated by their CDM project activity.
EVI is conducting yearly survey to understand what Indian CDM project developers' expectations are in the post 2012 CER market and to make them aware of the post 2012 CER market risk and the hedging strategies. The study showed
-
Cautious optimism among developers with about 32% of the responding developers showing high confidence that the CERs will have market value post 2012.
-
Moderate price expectations, and increasing preference for forward contracts
Case 4:
Client: A leading London based international private equity firm
Client was looking to buy equity stake in a company investing in various large scale power projects including hydro, coal based power plants. EVI was engaged to do due-diligence on carbon related aspects of the projects.
EVI assessed
-
Eligibility of generating carbon credits under various standards
-
Potential risks associated with CDM registration
-
Carbon credits valuation under different scenarios of evolving regulatory framework
-
Recommendations on how to structure carbon credit value in overall valuation
Case 5:
Client: Government Organization involved in promotion of renewable energy projects
Apart from promoting various large scale energy projects in renewable energy area, Govt is also keen to promote small scale decentralized renewable energy projects such as biomass gasifiers, roof-top solar applications, solar lanterns, biogas systems, and animal waste management . These projects face disadvantage in obtaining carbon credits due to small size, high CDM processing costs. To be able to obtain carbon benefits, programmatic CDM could be launched for such projects.
EVI provided consultancy to government on how to launch programmatic CDM for various small scale projects, appropriate implementation structure, suggestions on benefits sharing structures and carbon financing etc.
Case 6:
Client: corporate in various sectors such as Oil and Gas, Fertilizer, Pharma, Steel, Cement, Paper and Pulp, Chemicals, Services industries such as telecom, IT, Real estate etc
EVI provided consultancy to various corporate to identify various carbon credit opportunities, feasibility of these on various standards, cost-benefit analysis of carbon projects, possible baseline, additionality and monitoring plans, and roadmap for implementation.
Case 7:
Carbon Collateral Management Services (CCMS)
EVI provides consultancy to various corporate to manage their carbon portfolio. With strong technical expertise and in-depth process understanding, we put appropriate monitoring systems, capability development for staff, periodic pre-verification check, risk assessment and mitigation plans, timely resolution of issues and processing of dEVIation/rEVIsion if any to reduce time delays.
