Client: A government department involved in facilitating renewable energy development
Situation: A smaller government agency needed to exert its influence on national climate change policy position ahead of COP-15. This effort was needed to ensure a national position that encouraged renewable energy development and incorporated socially economic policies.
Aim: The client wanted to understand the status of present climate change negotiations, the role and importance of renewable energy in achieving the country’s emissions-reduction goals and issues of national interest under the Kyoto Protocol.
Solution: EVI assisted the agency by preparing a comprehensive approach paper that consolidated key stakeholder issues and concerns related to renewable energy and CDM carbon markets.
Benefits: The approach paper became the basis for the national climate change policy position for COP-15.
Client: A renowned international NGO involved in global social and environmental issues
Situation: Renewable energy technologies have numerous barriers that prevent them from entering the marketplace, especially in developing economies.
Aim: The client organization is working to eliminate the competitive disadvantages of solar energy by facilitating the development of infrastructure necessary to propel solar industry growth in developing economies. This required working with various stakeholders to catalyze the supply of large-scale clean energy. They looked to EVI for its expertise in renewable energy, policy advisory and relationships with local, state and national agencies.
Solution: EVI is working with the client and the state to standardize the technical requirement for solar energy development. These include;
• Identify and evaluate the suitability of land for the development of solar power.
• Designated Normative Insolation (DNI) level assessment
• Land preparation
• Infrastructure requirements (gas/water/transmission)
• integration of state-level programs with the national mandate
• Organizational and contractual structure of solar parks
• Fand the financial structure of the debt-financing package to be offered to project developers.
Benefits: Standardizing the technical requirements for solar developers will facilitate the market penetration of solar energy in India, greatly reducing GHG emissions growth. |
